This is the official website for Peet Ellison’s Timbertwig and all his friends in Wiggly Wood. Since they first appeared in Story Teller in the 80s, they have continued to enchant and amuse children of all ages through the years …

Meet Timbertwig

One of the most popular characters from Story Teller

Peet Ellison, the creator of Timbertwig, recalls that Timbertwig began life as a face, looking back at me from a piece of knotty wood, and went on to be my most enduring and loved creation. His first public appearance was in Story Teller magazine, published fortnightly by Marshall Cavendish and narrated by George Layton . His adventures spread across the globe, as children delighted in the mischievous adventures of Tirondin, Bastoncello, Palintroque and many other translations. The tales of Timbertwig, his magical spider Abigail, and the antics of bumbling Granny Knot, add up to a series of tales set in Wiggly Wood which are still amusing and entertaining readers both young and young at heart.

Why we love Timbertwig

Donna Chivers
Timbertwig Fan

I’m dyslexic, and as a child I felt Timbertwig’s bumbling character was very relatable. The sticky situations he got himself into made me realise mistakes didn’t make us any less loveable … that fumbling along in life, and tackling obstacles is part of the fun.

Timbertwig transported me to a magical world every fortnight. Each tale was truly mesmerizing, and I felt I knew the characters personally. Timbertwig reminds me of happy times and people no longer here. A wonderful place to revisit from time to time, it always seems to have the power to put everything right.

I loved Timbertwig ever since I got the tapes and magazines as a child, and now my children love the adventures in Wiggly Wood just as much as I do.

I loved Timbertwig as a kid and was lucky enough to get a signed copy of Timbertwig’s New Adventures for my son. It’s been amazing that I get to share this with him. Peet Ellison is absolutely amazing and has such a huge heart for his fans. Thank you!

Such happy memories. Every time I hear the music, that inner child smiles and the stories come alive. Many times I find myself quoting parts of the stories. I have passed the passion of reading Timbertwig to my daughter.

Timbertwig rekindles the sense of wonder first felt during childhood Christmases but more importantly, takes you back to magical and simpler times that can be relived, returning the reader to how it felt to share those times, with some people who are no longer here.

A heartfelt thank you to Peet Ellison for bringing Timbertwig to life. His creativity and vision gave the world something truly special. He didn’t just craft a character; he wove a timeless narrative that continues to inspire and delight. My childhood was truly blessed because of Timbertwig.

Meet the Residents of Wiggly Wood

Wiggly Wood is a place where anything can happen, a home to many colourful characters. Their love of life, mischiefs and misadventures ensures that there is never a dull moment! Meet some of them here.

  • Timbertwig

Timbertwig is the heartbeat of the stories, and is much loved by everyone in Wiggly Wood. Despite his talent for creating dramas, he always finds a way to save the day, with the help of his friends.
  • Abigail

Abigail, the magic spider, whose home is in Timbertwig’s hat, has a tendency for trying her best to help, but her spells invariably go wrong.
  • Granny Knot

Granny Knot is Timbertwig’s long suffering Granny, who dislikes ‘pesky’ spiders. Her seemingly hard exterior hides a tender heart, especially where Timbertwig or Mr Misfit are concerned.
  • Down-in-the-Dumps Dennis

Down-in-the-Dumps Dennis is often a bit low, as nothing ever seems to go right for him. Yet somehow, he overcomes adversity with a smile and some positive words of wisdom.
  • Mr Misfit

Mister Misfit is the jovial, yet bumbling and disorganised proprietor of The Caravan of Surprises; where you can buy anything at all, if only Mr Misfit can find it.
  • Mushroom Man

The Mushroom Man is prone to ponder, taking life at a slower pace, and usually out of the limelight.
  • Muddle the Mole

Muddle the Mole is well meaning, but lives up to his name, which invariably leads to mishaps and close calls.
  • Shamus O'Twit

Shamus ‘O'Twit is full of nervous energy, speaking so quickly that his bird brain can hardly keep up.
